feature friday: engagement.

Status: Officially in weekend mode! Happy Friday Mrs. Why Knot Fans! Today's love story is brought to us by a head-over-heels groom. Read on as he tells the story about him and his future MRS. from the moment they met leading up to the most nerve-racking day of his life (so far of course!)

story as submitted by Kellan:

Kellan Steed & Courtney Schroeder 08-04-12

How we met:
We didn’t officially meet until 2009, however, we had saw one another at random get-togethers and around Monmouth and knew of each other since 2007. I worked out at the gym Courtney worked at, and she thought I was good looking, but didn’t think I was her type (what was she thinking!?! haha). I saw her a handful of times at Dutch Bros. and of course thought she was attractive, but had heard from mutual friends that she was off the market. We officially met in April of 2009 at the classiest establishment in town; Lenora's Ghost-- a hot spot for the college crowd. Being the first Wednesday of the term (a night everyone usually goes out in Monmouth) Courtney was out with her girlfriends, dancing and having a good time. As fate would have it I was also out with my guy friends to celebrate the beginning of my last term of college. We ended up crossing paths that night on the dance floor, but neither of us thought anything of it. Courtney ended up losing her phone that night and looked up my number in the gym computer system to call and see if I had found it. Although we never found her phone, this was when we first started talking. We started hanging out casually and found out we had a lot of fun together. It wasn't long before we made it official at the end of May.

The Proposal: 08-18-2011
Although I had a couple different ideas of how I wanted to pop the question, I decided it would be awesome to propose in a hot air balloon. Courtney had mentioned about a year earlier that was something on her bucket list and I thought it would be really fun. On the day of I told her that I had a surprise for her and that she needed to be ready to leave at 5pm. We ended up pulling up at little winery, where she had no clue what to expect. The next thing she knows two vans drive into the parking lot, towing giant hot air balloon baskets. With excitement and shock on her face, Courtney looks at me, smiling from ear to ear, and said "Are you serious?!" (I could not have asked for a better reaction from her!) When we got up in the air everything was amazing, except for the amount of people in the balloon. With eight other people in the basket, there was very little room to turn around, let alone get on one knee and I quickly decided this wasn't going to be as special as I had hoped. Mid way through our flight, while looking out over downtown Seattle, Courtney suggested that we go to the Space Needle since she had never been to the top. Since this was one of the ideas I had been pondering earlier in the month, I agreed and thought "this is going to work out great!" We got to the top of the Space Needle and stepped outside onto the deck. Being 10:30pm and a pretty chilly night, there were very few people outside with us, which was what I had hoped. After about ten minutes of walking around enjoying the view, with my heart pounding faster than usual, I turned to her, got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. With tears running down her face, she said yes!

Thank you so much for sharing your love story with us, Kellan. Best of luck to you and Courtney on the wedding preparations. Enjoy every minute leading up to and including your BIG day!
